5,000 ACNC Charities receive a ‘red mark’ for failing to submit reporting

The Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC) has given a ‘red mark’ to more than 5,000 charities that have failed to submit their 2014 Annual Information Statements (AIS) due for most charities in January 2015. The red mark appears as an exclamation alert on the charity’s listing on the charity register.

The register is frequently viewed by the public, meaning that potential donors and grant makers have a clear indication as to which charities are not fulfilling their legal obligations.

Ensuring that you have submitted your charity’s annual information statement with the ACNC is vital to ensure that members of the public have up-to-date information about the work your charity is undertaking in the community.  

Further, charities that fail to comply with their reporting obligations by neglecting to lodge an AIS for two consecutive years may face further penalties including revocation of their charity status, which excludes them from accessing commonwealth charity tax concessions.
