Good news for corporate volunteers
Volunteering Australia, the national peak body for volunteering, has released a new definition of volunteering after a 2 year review. The new definition is ‘time willingly given for the common good without financial gain’.
This definition is more inclusive than its predecessor, as it now recognises corporate volunteering by an entity. This allows the company to be acknowledged for giving time instead of concentrating on people within the company who volunteer within their paid working time.
Volunteering Australia has stated that this new definition ‘may impact on future legislation and policy and lessening the distinction between profit making and not for profit entities in the growth of social enterprise in Australia’.
This is a good opportunity for B Corps and social enterprises to obtain greater recognition for their corporate volunteering programs.
