There have been some important changes to the Competition and Consumer (Industry Codes-Franchising) Regulations 2024. These changes will come into effect on 1 April 2025 and have the potential to impact the way franchises operate. The Federal Government has unveiled an exposure draft of the Treasury Laws Amendment (Measures for a later sitting) Bill 2021: Unfair contract term reforms (Exposure Draft) which seeks to amend the Australian Consumer Law (ACL) to improve the unfair contract terms (UCT) regime.
