The Australian Law Reform Commission released a Discussion Paper, Serious Invasions of Privacy in the Digital Era which set out over 40 proposals for reform, including new causes of action for invasion of privacy.  A Summary Report has recently been published which recommends the adoption of a great many of those proposals.

The process that has been undertaken further emphasises the commitment the Government has to protecting the privacy of individuals and enforcing penalty provisions against those businesses that breach the Privacy Laws.

Accordingly, it is becoming even more important that businesses adopt a Privacy Policy and/or Credit Reporting Privacy Policy to avoid the very serious consequences of non-compliance.
